Coimbatore: Na Karthik MLA has demanded that the Electricity Board should immediately provide electricity connections to those who apply for new electricity connections in Coimbatore.
Na. Karthik MLA in his petition to the District Collector requested that, “The Government of Tamil Nadu has made it mandatory for all newly constructed buildings to obtain a completion certificate. It has been made mandatory for all buildings to be constructed under the DTCP, the city and township in Coimbatore, to obtain a certificate of completion of construction.
Accordingly, the corporation officials should come and inspect the buildings to be constructed under the DTCP as soon as the work is completed and issue the construction completion certificate.
Recently, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has announced that it will provide electricity to new buildings in Coimbatore, including houses and commercial establishments, only on completion of construction work on behalf of CMDA, DTCP and local bodies.
If the public goes to the Coimbatore corporation offices and asks for a certificate of completion of construction work, they are left without a certificate. As far as the Corporation of Coimbatore is concerned, everyone knows how difficult it is to get any certificate from the office there.
For small houses and small shops such as tin sheds, they are not provided with electricity connection despite the exception that the Electricity Board may provide electricity connection without a construction completion certificate. They are also compelled by the Electricity Board to obtain a construction completion certificate.
For people demanding a new power connection, the situation is like a double edged sword.
It is causing great inconvenience to the public that the Electricity Board is asking for construction completion certificates and local bodies are wavering and giving reasons for not giving construction completion certificates. As a result, people are suffering greatly from not being able to get electricity and not knowing what to do.
Therefore, I request the Coimbatore District Collector to take appropriate action regarding their completion of construction work, find a solution and assist in providing immediate electrical connection to all those who have applied for electrical connection.”
The complaint of delay and dragging in providing completion certificates has been an oft murmured issue in Coimbatore and people expect a conducive resolution for this issue.
