Coimbatore: Shop owners protest demolition of old buildings in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Shop owners protest demolition of old buildings in Coimbatore. Following the recent collapse of an old building in the Selvapuram area of Coimbatore which caused four deaths, District Collector K. Rajamani issued an order to demolish the old and unmaintained buildings in Coimbatore which posed danger to the public.

This being the case, Saravana kumar and family who maintain the Vinayagar temple in Ukkadam had rented out shops that have been sublet to others too. Under the circumstances, with the imminent Northeast monsoon, the site owners have consented for the shops to be demolished since they are mostly dilapidated.

When the Corporation officials and police tried to demolish the damaged shops today, the shopkeepers protested and created commotion.

Following this, officials from the Corporation and Police Department negotiated a compromise with them and began demolishing the shops thereafter.
