Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Friday reported 5,488 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 67 related deaths, taking the total number of infections to 5,30,908 and the state toll to 8,685, according to the State Health Department media bulletin.

The day also saw 5,525 patients getting discharged after recovery from various hospitals across the State.
Of the new cases reported today, 989 were from State Capital Chennai.
As of September 17, cumulatively 5,30,908COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 8,685 deaths and 4,75,717 discharges, the Health Department said in its bulletin.
Among the districts where a higher number of cases were reported, Coimbatore accounted for 542, Chengalpattu 265, Thiruvallur 258, Salem 288 and Cuddalore 254.
Tirupur logged 187 cases and the Nilgiris 72.
According to the bulletin, the number of active cases stood at 46,506.
A total of 63,03,466 samples have been tested till date of which a whopping 85,543 were tested over the last 24 hours.
