Coimbatore: Devotees maintain social distancing and offer prayers at Masaniamman temple in Pollachi on the occasion of Mahalaya Amavasai.

The Masani Amman temple in Anaimalai near Pollachi is very famous and thousands of devotees come here on important days, including the new moon day to offer prayers. As relaxations have been announced, pilgrims are being allowed into the temple for worship from September 1. But they are allowed only after following strict norms like social distancing and all the preventive measures.

As yesterday marked the first day of the month of Purattasi and being Mahalaya Ammavasai, devotees were allowed for worship after strict monitoring.

Earlier special buses and trains were operated for the pilgrims coming to attend the Mahalaya Ammavasai poojai. This time, in order to control the spread of the disease, the devotees were denied permission to even stay in the temple premises.

Also, the number of out-of-town pilgrims was low as special buses did not ply. The temple was closed during the new moon night to control spread of diseases and the pilgrims were only allowed to worship Goddess after following all the norms during the daytime.
