Hundreds of brick kilns are operating in Chinna Thadagam Periya Thadagam and Mangarai. The bricks made here are being sent all over Tamil Nadu and to neighboring states.
Complaints have been raised that the GST is not being paid properly for the bricks sold from these brick kilns. Following this GST officials conducted sudden raids at 25 locations in Coimbatore including Somayanur, Chinna Thadagam, Periya Thadagam, Saibaba Kovil and Kavundampalayam at 6 am this morning.

Inspections were carried out at 25 locations including KKG Chamber in Periya Thadagam, Vishnu Chamber, Mani Chamber and VKV petrol bunk in Somayanur, brick kilns, and brick kiln owners' houses in places including Kavundampalayam and Saibaba temple.

The inspections lasted for more than 6 hours and it is said that the owners who had not paid properly were fined.
As several complaints have been lodged with the District Collector and the Mineral Resources Department that several brick kilns are operating in the Thadagam area without proper permits, the inspections caused a stir.
