Tirupur: Farmers planted 7200 trees on behalf on Cauvery Kookural Iyakkam in Tirupur. Carvery Kookural Iyakkam is involved in the task of planting 1 lakh 26 thousand saplings all over Tamil Nadu in 3 days in memory of "Maram" Thangasamy who dedicated his life for the work of tree planting.

As part of it, 4000 trees were planted in 10 acres of farm of Rajesh from Veerapandi village in Periyanaickenpalayam Taluk and in the 3 acres of land that belongs to Siranjeevi, 1200 trees were planted. In the 5 acres of land that belongs to Kalaivanan, Ellapalayam village in Tekkaloor Taluk in Tirupur District 2,000 saplings were planted. To enable income for them, trees like redwood, sandalwood, rosewood and vengai were planted.

Volunteers from the Cauvery Kookural movement provided necessary assistance for planting. About 331 acres of agricultural lands were chosen for this in more than 20 districts including Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Madurai, Indukkal, Theni, Virudhunagar, Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli. It is to be noted that farmers in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have so far planted 83 lakh saplings through the Cauvery Kookural movement, which was launched last year.

'Maram' Thangasamy has played an important role in creating awareness about tree cultivation among the farmers of Tamil Nadu. He worked hand in hand with Isha from the beginning and passed away in 2018. Since then, Isha has been planting saplings on his Memorial Day from last year to honour his service.
