Taking a major step towards securing the dreams of medical aspirants from Tamil Nadu's government schools, the State government led by Edapadi K Palanisamy has moved a bill promising 7.5% of medical seats to government school students in TN.

Earlier, the resolution ensuring 7.5% seats to government students was passed in July which has now passed as a bill. The Tamil Nadu legislative assembly on Tuesday approved the bill to maintain a 7.5% quota limit within the current reservation in medical UG courses for the students belonging to the state government schools. This bill will be applicable for students clearing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Last week, three NEET aspirants in Tamil Nadu allegedly committed suicide, a day before they were to appear for the medical entrance exam. People from.several walks of lufe, political parties and public figures including actor Surya registered their strong condemnation to revoke NEET as it kills the dreams of medical aspirants hailing from poor economic background.

The bill passed by Tamil Nadu AIADMK government has reserved 7.5 percent seats in state medical colleges exclusively for students passing out from government-run schools.
