Farmers in Tirupur conduct sit-in protest in condemnation of laying of pipelines through farmlands by Bharat Petroleum

Tirupur: Farmers in Tirupur are conducting a sit-in protest condemning Bharat Petroleum laying pipelines through farmlands.


Tirupur: Bharat Petroleum is planning to lay oil pipelines from Irugur in Coimbatore district to Devankothi in Karnataka through farmlands. Farmers have been protesting and demanding the construction of oil pipelines along roadsides.



District administration negotiations to postpone the farmers' strike have failed. The farmers have engaged in a series of sit-in protests today near the Kandyan Kovil, the point of origin for the oil pipeline.



Farmers from six districts including Erode and Salem are participating. A large number of police have been deployed for security.
