Coimbatore: The task of identifying rundown government and private buildings in Coimbatore is being undertaken as the District Collector K. Rajamani had ordered for the demolition of such buildings.
Coimbatore:The task of identifying rundown government and private buildings in Coimbatore is being undertaken as the District Collector K. Rajamani had ordered for the demolition of such buildings.
On September 6, heavy rains brought about the collapse of a two-storey building in Chetti Veedhi near Ukkadam. Four people were killed and six were injured in the incident that caused panic and sorrow amid the public.
Meanwhile the District Collector had ordered for a survey of unused government and private buildings in a dilapidated condition and those that pose danger to the public, within the Corporation, Municipalities and Town Panchayats . He ordered for such buildings to be demolished.
In wake of this, local body officials, Revenue Department and PWD officials are actively involved in reviewing the buildings in all the areas to find and demolish such buildings.
An official with the District Administration said, "With the Northeast monsoon approaching, the task of identifying old and unstable buildings is actively underway in the district. If such identified buildings are not demolished within a specific period of time, action will be taken against the owner of the building."
