The Nilgiris: Employees of Ooty Sterling Biotech shut down by Pollution Control Board protest demanding the company be reopened


The Nilgiris: Employees of Sterling Biotech, a company shut down by Pollution Control Board two years ago demanded the company be reopened. They said their livelihood has been affected and requested that the factory be reopened immediately.

The factory manufactures generic drugs and exports them to many countries. The Pollution Control Board said the water used here should be recycled but when the company did not pay heed, the factory was sealed two years ago.



Under the circumstances, the workers stated that they have lost their livelihood and more than hundred of them staged a sit-in protest in front of the factory today demanding immediate payment of their salary arrears and the reopening of the factory.



An argument broke out between the police and protesters as they did not seek prior permission. They dispersed after some time.
