Alleged police attack on daily wage labourer; Human Rights Commission demands reply from Coimbatore District SP within three weeks

Coimbatore: The Human Rights Commission has demanded an explanation from the Coimbatore SP for the alleged attack on a daily wage labourer by the Periyanaickenpalayam police, within three weeks.

Kannan works as a welder and stays in the Kavundampalayam area at the house of his brother Murugan. On September 10, the Periyanaickenpalayam police took him to the police station in the night and allegedly attacked him mercilessly. Based on this, Radhakrishnan, a relative of Kannan, filed a complaint at the Coimbatore SP's office requesting action against the Periyanaickenpalayam police who attacked Kannan under the pretext of investigation.

Speaking about this, Kannan who is currently undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore GH said, "The police attacked me, forcing me to confess to a murder that took place in the Kovanur area, six months ago."

Meanwhile, the Periyanaickenpalayam police said, "Kannan was taken to the police station for investigation regarding a murder that happened in Kovanur six months ago. Both his legs were already hurt when he came to the police station."

News about this alleged attack was published in the media. Based on this, the Human Rights Commission has demanded an explanation from the Coimbatore SP within three weeks.
