Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu records 5,752 cases and 5,799 recoveries, while 53 deaths take toll to 8,434


Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu’s tally of COVID-19 cases climbed to 5,08,511 with 5,752 more persons testing positive on Monday.

Of the fresh cases, Chennai accounted for 991, while Coimbatore ranked second on the charts with a whopping 498 cases.

A total of 5,799 persons were discharged today. So far, the State has logged 4,53,165 recoveries. The toll has gone up to 8,434 as another 53 persons (34 at government hospitals and 19 at private hospitals) succumbed to the infection.

While Tirupur logged 192 cases, The Nilgiris posted 94.

Other than Coimbatore, the districts of Chengalpattu (364), Salem (297), Cuddalore (296), Thiruvallur (294) and Thiruvannamalai also recorded high numbers.

With 80,123 samples tested in the last 24 hours, the total number of tests so far went up to 57,79,589.
