Tirupur: Talks were held with the Divisional officer on behalf of the Tirupur farmers regarding the cancellation of inquiry into the notice issued to take over the lands of the farmers who were affected by laying of IDPL pipelines in an alternate route on roadsides.
Failure of the talks has prompted the farmers to announce continuous protests from tomorrow.
The Irugur-Devangonthi Petroleum and Petroleum Products Pipeline (IDPL) project between Coimbatore District and Karnataka is to be laid on farmlands. However, farmers have opposed this and have been protesting to lay the pipelines on roadsides.
The federation of affected farmers has meanwhile protested for the cancellation of the inquiry into the notice issued to the farmers whose lands are to be acquired and demanded to undertake the laying of the pipelines on roadsides.
In a notice issued by the federation yesterday, they said, "The inquiry into the notice issued to the farmers whose lands have been acquired for the laying of the IDPL pipelines must be cancelled during these pandemic times. The laying of the pipelines must be carried out along the roadsides. Insisting on all these requests, a continuous protest is to be held from September 15.
This protest will be held in six districts including Tirupur, Erode and Salem, tomorrow. Meanwhile, the negotiations between the farmers and the authorities were held in the presence of the Tirupur Divisional Officer Kavitha at the Tirupur Divisional Office. Since the negotiations failed, the affected farmers of Karungalipalayam and Kandiyan Kovil village are to stage protests from tomorrow."
