Farmers of the Angalakurichi, Setthumadai, Aliyar, Manjanaickanur, Kammalapatti, Kolaparuthiyur, Kottur, Chemmanampathy, Marappa Kavundan Pudur, Kalipuram, Ambarampalayam and Kilavan Pudur areas are involved in coconut and tapioca cultivation and cash crops such as tomatoes and vegetables.
The attack on the young shoots of the coconut trees by wild boars and civets have affected the coconut farmers greatly. The farmers who are involved in the cultivation of cash crops are also being affected by wild boars and peacocks. The wild boars also attack farmers.
The farmers petitioned the District Collector requesting action by the district administration and the forest department to protect the farmers and their crops from these wild animals.
