Coimbatore: A head constable at Podanur police station tested positive for COVID-19.

The number of coronavirus infections in Coimbatore has crossed 21,000. According to the district health officials, over 400 cases are being reported in Coimbatore district everyday .

Policemen working in several police stations who were infected with COVID-19 have returned to work after undergoing treatment. Under the circumstances, a head constable at the Podanur Police Station who was down with flu like illness for over a week took a COVID-19 test.

He isolated himself at his home in Vellalore area as his test came positive. At the Podanur police station, more than 8 people have been infected with COVID-19 so far. As infections among police officers have decreased in the past few days, the positive result of the cop at Podanur station has caused fear amid policemen.

City Police Commissioner has instructed police officers to work safely and have provided them with items including masks, gloves, protective glasses and Kabasura Kudineer. It is to be noted that Chief Secretary Shanmugam informed that in the coming days, there is a possibility of an increase in COVID-19 infections in five districts in Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore.
