Coimbatore: Anamalai Masaniamman Temple next to Pollachi will not be open during Mahalaya Amavasya, announced the temple administration.
The Anamalai Masaniamman Temple next to Pollachi is visited by a large number of devotees not only from the localities close by, but also from far off locales including many southern districts during the new moon day and special occasions. The temple is usually open at night, especially on the day of the new moon.

The new moon for this month is on Wednesday the 16th from 7:26 pm and on Thursday the 17th from 5:24 pm. The day is also a Mahalaya Amavasya, an auspicious day for Hindus. The temple administration has announced that the temple will not be opened this time around to protect the devotees from coronavirus.
As per a GO from the Tamil Nadu government, the temple will be closed at 8:00 pm on the new moon night. Devotees can visit the temple from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm for worship. The temple administration also said that devotees should avoid coming in large numbers and adhere to social distancing compulsorily.

Meanwhile, Pollachi firefighters are spraying disinfectant at the temple premises and surrounding areas.
