Coimbatore: More than 500 families live on Southwest Street at V.Kaliyapuram Pirivu under Vettaikaranpudur Municipality next to Pollachi.
Due to the lack of a ration shop here, the public had to walk about one and a half kilometers to the one at Vettaikaranpudur.Under the circumstance, after the public demanded for several days to set a ration shop up near the residences, a temporary shop was opened near V. Kaliyapuram Pirivu, but it was operational for just one day after which it remains closed for more than a month due to non-distribution of goods. This is causing great hardship to the people in the area.
Therefore, in the interest of the public, the people in the area demanded the revenue authorities to take action to open the non-functioning ration shop.
Revenue officials say at least 150 ration cards are needed to set up a temporary ration shop, but in V. Kaliapuram Pirivu there are not enough ration cards on Southwest Street. They say that the demand of the people of the area is being considered, however, and steps will be taken to set a temporary shop up there soon under special arrangement.
