Coimbatore: Movement of wild elephants in the areas near Coimbatore forest ranges has increased and the Forest Department has cautioned the public to stay safe.
Coimbatore: Movement of wild elephants in the areas near Coimbatore forest ranges has increased and the Forest Department has cautioned the public to stay safe.
Areas in the Mettupalayam Forest Range including Kallar, Sachidananda School, Grant Hotel Road, and Mundiri Modakku witness increased elephant movement, according to the Forest Department.

Meanwhile, a plantain farm belonging to Thirumoorthy from West Kandipudur, Karamadai that had more than 300 banana trees was destroyed by three wild elephants. The Forest Department is investigating the incident.
Elephant movement has been particularly noted in Marudamalai, Kallar and Mundiri Modakku areas. Hence the people of these areas and farmers, particularly those whose livelihood are based on the Thadagam brick kilns, have been advised to stay indoors in the early morning hours and in the night. They were asked to exercise caution and stay safe.
Further, the public have been asked to refrain from using two wheelers in the night. The brick kiln workers in the Thadagam area have also been requested by the Forest department not to sleep outside their homes at night.
The public in these areas that experience elephant movement have been warned not to step out in the night when they are informed about elephant movement and completely avoid the elephant pathways.
The Forest department has also requested the public to notify forest workers in their areas on witnessing elephant movement.
