Coimbatore: The distribution of new Voter IDs with a 10 digit identification number has commenced in Coimbatore informed officials.

The Indian Election Commission had advised to provide voter ID's with sequential serial numbers all over the country. Voter ID's with three English alphabets and seven digit numbers are being printed. The distribution of these cards has commenced in Coimbatore.
Informing this, an official with the District Administration said, "The corrected voters list of Coimbatore District was released in February. As per this list there are 29 lakh voters. Meanwhile the Indian Election Commission had advised for voter ID's with sequential serial numbers to be provided.
Following this, 6.45 lakh new voter id cards have been printed for Coimbatore District and they reached Coimbatore two months ago.
However, due to the increase in the spread of COVID-19, the distribution was halted.
Now it has commenced with the guidelines provided by the government. 50 ID cards have been advised to be distributed by an employee per day."
