Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Thursday reported a spike of 5,528 new COVID-19 cases and 64 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 4,86,052 and death toll to 8,154, the State Health Department said.

Out of fresh cases reported today, 991 were from State Capital Chennai.
As of September 2 evening, cumulatively 4,86,052 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 8,154 deaths and 4,29,416 discharges including the 6,185 recoveries today, the Health Department said in its bulletin.
A total of 56,30,323 samples have been tested so far, out of which 85,473 were tested today alone.
Including the 440 cases today, Coimbatore has an overall case tally of 20,839.
While Tirupur logged 155 cases, The Nilgiris posted 69.
