The Nilgiris and Mudumalai regions are rich in biodiversity and several wildlife species live in the region. Some of these have been reported to be hunted for meat.

One those lines, dholes were found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Gudalur, Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, Singara Wildlife Sanctuary, Bokkapuram forest areas. Kochchalan, a veterinarian from Masinagudi, conducted an autopsy on the bodies of the dead dholes. Their body parts have been sent to Coimbatore and Chennai Science Laboratory for forensic examination.

Singara Forest Officer Kanthan is investigating under the orders of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Srikanth. The forest department said that hunting and killing wild animals has increased and an intense investigation is underway. It is suspected that the dholes may have been accidentally poisoned by hunters who intended to kill other animals.
