Coimbatore: Police have arrested a female broker who sold a 20-day-old baby boy born near Pollachi for Rs 80,000 and the couple who bought the baby.
Rajesh Kumar and Gokila are from Chettipalayam, Coimbatore. As they had no children, they approached their friend Paulina, a woman from Aliyar Puliankandi near Pollachi, to buy a baby for them.
Murugavel is a laundry worker from Angalkurichi whose wife Sudha gave birth to a baby boy 20 days ago. Getting wind of this, Paulina asked them to sell the baby and later Rajesh Kumar, Gokila and Paulina paid Rs 80,000 and bought the baby and left.
The public in the neighborhood complained to the Coimbatore Child Welfare Office regarding the sale of the baby. The authorities have arrested Rajesh Kumar, his wife Gokila and three others, including Paulina, who acted as mediators. The Aliyar police arrested them based on the complaint and are investigating the case. The sale of a 20-day-old baby boy has caused a stir in the area.
