Coimbatore: Reduced supply of copra has led to an increase in price per quintal by Rs.345 leading Anamalai farmers to rejoice.
The auction held at the Anaimalai regulated outlet witnessed lower supply of copra compared to last week. Due to this, the price ofcopra per quintal increased by Rs.345 making the farmers happy.
Speaking about this the Supervisor of the Regulated outlet Manivasagam said, "10 traders and 129 farmers from Anamalai and the surrounding areas took part in the auction. They had brought 646 sacks of copra for sale. The authorities segregated them according to quality in front of the traders and then auctioned them.
First quality copra in 358 sacks fetched a minimum of Rs.10,210 and a maximum of Rs.11,060 per quintal. Second quality copra in 288 sacks fetched a minimum of Rs. 7,660 and a maximum of Rs.9,260 per quintal. Due to rains in and around the Anamalai region, the supply of copra has come down. Hence compared to last week there were 43 sacks less. 345 quintals were auctioned for Rs.27 lakhs."
