Coimbatore: Minister S.P. Velumani distributed government solatium of Rs.12 lakhs to the families of the Chetti Veedhi building collapse victims.
Four people died when a dilapidated building collapsed at Chetti Veedhi in Coimbatore. The collapse of the two storey house belonging to Vanaja resulted in the death of Swetha. The building also brought down an adjacent house and three members of the same family, Gopalsamy, Kasthuri Ammal and Manikandan died as a result of this.

The Minister for Municipal Administration S.P. Velumani met the family of the deceased and expressed his condolences. He provided them with a solatium of Rs.4 lakhs - Rs.1 lakh from the CM's Relief Fund and Rs.3 lakhs Disaster Relief Fund.

He provided a cheque for Rs. 12 lakhs to the family of the three members who died in the accident. Investigations regarding the nominee of Manikandan who died in the accident are on and the compensation would be paid to them later.

District Collector K. Rajamani, Corporation Commissioner P. Kumaravel Pandian,, Deputy Commissioner Madhuranthagi, District Revenue Officer Ramaduraimurugan and South MLA Amman Arjunan were during the event.
When the Minister was leaving the venue a young man, Abdul Latheef, spoke to the Minister. The Minister left the place questioning who the person was. The police enquired about him and it then came to light that he was the friend of the person who operated the JCB equipment to rescue the people from the site of building collapse and that he had helped rescue the victims.
He then informed the police that since they had not been paid for the work that was done he had complained to the Minister.

Since party cadres gathered during this incident, the police took him away safely. The area appeared tense for some time, due to this.
Following this the Minister visited the injured persons who are being treated at the Coimbatore GH, consoled them and provided Rs.1.5 lakhs each to the three injured.
