Coimbatore: Corporation officials have informed that one lakh people have been tested for COVID-19 within the Corporation limits.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the Coimbatore district have been increasing in the past few weeks. Out of the total number of COVID patients in the district, 85% of them reside within the Corporation areas. Hence intensive measures are being undertaken to control the spread of COVID-19 .

Each day 4,000 to 4,500 people are being tested for COVID-19. Further, tests are also being conducted through 37 mobile testing centres.

A Corporation official informed, "More than one lakh people have been tested for COVId-19 in the Corporation areas. Out of this 14,000 people have tested positive for the disease. However, upto 10,000 people have recovered and have been discharged already. The remaining people are being treated at the various private and government hospitals, and the COVID-19 treatment centers."

He also said, "A special testing center has been set up at the Siddhapudur Corporation School to identify if the people who test positive for COVID-19 have diabetes, high BP or breathing difficulties. A similar testing centre has been instituted at GCT College, a private wedding hall and a private hospital in Singanallur. By doing this we hope to decrease the number of COVID-19 deaths."
