Tirupur: The members of the Uzhavar Uzhaipalar Katchi filed a petition with the Tirupur District Collector insisting on reopening of cattle markets.
Due to the spread of COVID-19 a temporary ban had been issued on cattle markets since March. The livelihood of rural farmers is dependent mainly on these markets.
Since the government recently announced a lot of relaxations to the lockdown, the Uzhavar Uzhaipalar Katchi requested for the reopening cattle markets in Tirupur district and commencement of cattle trading. They also submitted that the Tirupur vegetable market continues to function at night and it affects the small farmers of the Uzhavar Sandhai. They requested that the vegetable market must be permitted to function in the daytime. A request was also placed to reopen the weekly shandies all over the district.
