How can a political leader be appointed as the member of Bharathiar University Syndicate? - MP PR Natarajan
Coimbatore:
MP PR Natarajan has questioned the appointment of a polictical leader as the member of Bharathiar University Syndicate. In his statement, he said several steps have been taken to impose the new education policy introduced by the central government which has been strongly opposed by academics, intellectuals, student organizations and political parties.
He said the BJP government in power is trying to impose saffronisation. He further added that the BJP government is operating with a dictatorial attitude which does not consider anyones opinion or views. The governor has now appointed BJP state vice-president Kanakasabapathy as a syndicate member of Bharathiar University. MP PR Natarajan said to appoint someone from a direct political party to such positions is not acceptable and said the action of the Governor of Tamil Nadu has shocked all academics.
He said the action by the Governor is a false example of how a democracy should work and also questioned as to how Vice-Chancellor recommended the appointment of a BJP state vice-president as a member of the Syndicate, when there is a clear rule that appointments should be made in consultation with the Vice-Chancellor before making appointments.
In his statement the MP said. "As there is a strong opposition to the new education policy across the country, such appointments raise doubt if BJP is trying to implement the education policy in Tamil Nadu through the back door and also if the governor has a hand in this. The appointment of a political party leader as a member of the Syndicate is unacceptable. The governor should withdraw this immediately. I request the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the Minister of Higher Education to immediately intervene and pressurize the Governor to cancel this appointment."
