Coimbatore: DMK MLA N. Karthik has urged for cancellation of Coimbatore Corporation's contract with Suez Corporation for drinking water distribution in Coimbatore. He demanded a white paper from Coimbatore Corporation about the contract.

He accused the Coimbatore Corporation for allocating 3,150 crores for 26 years to Suez Corporation from France which has several accusations levelled against it. He said the DMK Party Chief has registered a strong condemnation on 25.06.2018 against the Coimbatore Corporation and Tamil Nadu government for signing the contract.

He pointed out that people from all walks of life in Coimbatore condemned and registered their protests. DMK and its allied parties had protested against this on 06.07.2018, 19.06.2019, 27.08.19, 10.10.2019 and on 28.11.2019. Despite the protests the Corporation continued to implement the plan.

He said it has been about three years since this contract was signed, and the work of laying the drinking water supply pipe is still pending and the progress is made at a snail's pace. Roads in several area in the city have become bumpy and useless for traffic and are dangerous for motorists.

Also in many places, when the pits were dug, the existing drinking water pipes were broken and the drinking water supply was disrupted, making it very difficult for the public. They were made to go to and fro to the Corporation office to rectify this later. Drinking water pipes in the city break down and leak so often and it takes too long to rectify.

He also accused the Suez employees, who are currently managing the drinking water supply project, of not repairing the broken drinking water pipes immediately. Due to the administrative malpractices of the employees of the company, the supply of drinking water in all parts of the city has been severely disrupted and the public is suffering without adequate supply of drinking water.

DMK MLA N. Karthik accused the Corporation of wasting public's tax money on a project that has made no progress and instead caused a lot of trouble. He also said that local Minister SP Velumani and CM Edappadi Palanisamy have failed to even provide the basic necessity like drinking water to the people.

He demanded that the Coimbatore Corporation must cancel the contract of 3,150 crores for 26 years immediately and issue a white paper on the project at the earliest. He warned of a massive protest along with the public by following if the Corporation fails to do so.

Following this a protest led by youth wing deputy secretary Durai, Senthamil Selvan, in the presence of Ward Secretary Manikandan, Peelamedu Youth Wing deputy secretary Prabhakaran, Ramkumar, Karthick, Bharat Kumar and other Youth wing members was held under guidance of District Secretary N. The protest was held demanding cancellation of NEET exams and streamlining of online classes without causing stress to children and parents. Under the guidance of DMK Chief Stalin and Youth Wing Secretary Udayanidhi Stalin, Coimbatore DMK MLA N. Karthik and Youth wing organiser Elango organised a protest by the 37th circle Youth Wing organiser K. Manikandan. Deputy Organiser Prem and Circle Organiser Ganesh, Zonal Secretary K.
