Tirupur: A petition regarding the laying of high power towers was submitted to the Tirupur District Collector on behalf of the Vavipalayam farmers of Pongalur area.

The measurements for the laying of electricity lines have been taken already in the Palladam block of Tirupur district and the construction towers is underway. Last week farmers of the Vavipalayam village of the Pongalur Union resisted the construction of towers in the paths other than the previously measured paths.

Farmers of the area criticised this action of the authorities who attempted the laying of the high power towers in the areas not earmarked for the project, without prior intimation and without asking for the feedback of the farmers.

They submitted a petition to the District Collector requesting to initiate action against these authorities.
