Coimbatore: After the recent relaxations in COVID lockdown, bus service between districts resumed in Tamil Nadu today. Very few turned up due to the COVID-19 thread.

Buses started plying from Coimbatore to other districts including Karur, Trichy, Tirupur and Madurai from early in the morning following the security guidelines of the government. Although the Tamil Nadu government has permitted operation of buses to other districts with 50 per cent passenger capacity, only very few passengers turned up at the Gandhipuram Central bus stand due to fear of COVID-19. Hence only a limited number of buses are operated from Coimbatore to the other districts.

The Coimbatore Division Corporation plans to increase the number of buses from Coimbatore to Karur, Trichy, Madurai and Dindigul by 353. Buses are available from Gandhipuram Central Bus Stand to other destinations like Erode, Sathyamangalam, Salem, Tirupur and Karur. Buses are also available from Singanallur bus stand to Trichy and Madurai. As of now, the only southern district that has been slotted is Madurai.

Passengers have been advised to wear masks and follow social distancing. Seats and handles are cleaned with disinfectant before the buses are operated.
