Coimbatore: Forest Department imposed a fine of Rs. 15,000 on trespassers in the restricted area of forests near Valparai. Nallamudi viewpoint is located in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve in Valparai, Coimbatore district.

Tourists were banned due to the coronavirus lockdown. Now, the Tamil Nadu government has allowed tourists to visit Valparai. Hence tourists from various parts of the state, including Chennai, have come to Valparai, but there are restricted areas that are still banned for public entry.

Tourists from Chennai visited Nallamudi without permission and shot video with a drone camera. Forest department officials on patrol confiscated the drone and interrogated the tourists. The investigation revealed that they were Vignesh 24, Ravi Shankar 24, Prabhu 33, Senthilkumar 23 and Vasanth Joe Immanuel 25 from Chennai.

Anaimalai Tiger Reserve Deputy Field Director of Arokiyaraj Xavier fined them Rs 3,000 each. They claimed they shot with the camera to enjoy nature and did not know it was a restricted area. The Deputy Field Director warned that if a drone was found videotaping wildlife in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve and tea estates, it would be confiscated and an arrest would be made under the Wildlife Conservation Act.
