Coimbatore: As 200 faulty BSNL broadband lines in Saravanampatti have not yet been attended despite multiple complaints and repeated reminders to the local exchange and higer officials, the consumer rights organisation - Consumer Awareness and Protection Association (CAPA) - has taken the issue to central minister for communication.

Consumer Awareness and Protection Association (CAPA) president NR Ravishankar spoke to SimpliCity and said, "There are a lot of BSNL broadband internet subscribers in Cheran Maanagar area of Saravanampatti telephone exchange of Coimbatore SSA that comes under Tamil Nadu Circle. Around 200 of these connections ceased functioning from August 31. The broadband connection that comes with number 0422-2665041 is also not functioning.

A complaint was sent to '198' but no message was received to my registered mobile with the requisite docket number. Nobody turned up to restore the connections till the evening of August 31. Following this, we sent an e-mail dated 01-09-2020 to Principal General Manager of BSNL, Coimbatore requesting action for restoration of all the faulty broadband internet connections."

He added, "There was no response to this e-mail and hence we forwarded this e-mail to Chairman cum Managing Director, BSNL, New Delhi on September 3 to no avail as there was no response up until the evening of September 4. On the 5th, I contacted the Saravanampatti exchange and was told that nearly 200 broadband internet connections are to be attended by the contractor and that there is a dispute between BSNL, Coimbatore and the contractor who is assigned this work."

He further said, "Huge delay witnessed in restoring the faulty broadband internet connections is not fair. This made a big impact since the internet services play a major role in catering to various needs of the customers. On behalf of our association, we have taken this issue to the central minister for communication through an e-mail wherein we have requested swift action on war-footingto restore the faulty broadband internet connections."
