Rigorous infection control measures have helped reduce Covid outbreak in Police dept - City Police Commissioner

Coimbatore: The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has so far, claimed the lives of many frontline warriors including many from the police department. In the recent past, several police stations in Coimbatore were temporarily closed after the policemen on duty contracted Covid virus.

Coimbatore: The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has so far, claimed the lives of many frontline warriors including many from the police department. In the recent past, several police stations in Coimbatore were temporarily closed after the policemen on duty contracted Covid virus.

In a bid to control the spread of the virus which has claimed close to 400 people in Coimbatore, rigorous measures were adopted by the City police to prevent the spread of the virus, any further.

Upon the orders of the City Police Commissioner, directives were given to every police station and departments on mandatory Covid protocols to be followed and implemented at their work place.

Commenting on how the virus spread among the police department has been controlled, the City Police Commissioner, Sumit Sharan on Saturday, informed that by implementing strict measures the Covid spread among the police personnel has been drastically reduced.



Addressing the police personnel at PRS grounds on the importance of practicing safety measures to combat the virus, the Commissioner said that it is mandatory for all members of the police fraternity to mask up and wear gloves, while at duty.

He emphasised on the how safety measures can help oneself to stay from contracting the virus. He advised that those policemen travelling to other districts have to take proper precautionary measures, when they rejoin duty.



Those even with mild symptoms should self quarantine themselves, as carelessness of any sort could cost the lives of other policemen, on duty, the Commissioner stressed.

He reiterated that the only way to combat this pandemic is by maintaining personal hygiene and taking up social responsibility.



The Police Commissioner also handed over safety kits which comprises of a disinfectant, glasses, gloves and masks to police inspectors, sub-inspectors and traffic policemen.

Deputy Commissioner (law & order) Stalin, Deputy Commissioner (crime), Uma, and other senior officials and policemen were present.
