COVID-19: Tamil Nadu reports 5,861 new cases and 5,859 recoveries

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu on Saturday reported a spike of 5,861 new COVID-19 cases and 61 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 4,57,697 and death toll to 7,748, the Health Department said.

Out of fresh cases reported on Tuesday, 965 cases were from State Capital Chennaialone.

While Coimbatore posted an alarmingly high single-day jump of 545, Tirupur too joined the fray with a whopping 196. The Nilgiris logged 47 cases.

As of September 2 evening, cumulatively 4,57,697 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 7,748 deaths and 3,98,366 discharges including the 5,859 recoveries today, the Health Department said in its bulletin.

A total of 52,12,534 samples have been tested so far, out of which 81,793 were tested on Saturday alone.
