Kaliyappan (60) lived at Nilambur in the city outskirts. While out walking as part of his exercise routine, a man who was hiding on the roadside near a star hotel on Avinashi Road hit Kaliyappan with a cricket bat and fled the scene. Those present rescued Kaliyappan and admitted him to a nearby private hospital for treatment , but he was shifted to Coimbatore Government Hospital for further treatment as his health worsened.
Meanwhile, Kaliyappan, who was receiving treatment at the Coimbatore Government Hospital, succumbed to his injuries. Sulur police registered a case in this regard and were on the lookout for the culprit. They perused CCTV footage from the vicinity and were investigating the incident from various angles. It was later found that the person who attacked and killed Kaliyappan with a cricket bat was Hari Krishnan (41), a tenant at one of Kaliyappan's houses, and the Kaliyappan's wife Rajamani (58) was an accomplice.
Upon investigation it was revealed that Kaliyappan made amoral advances towards Hari krishnan's wife several times even after several warnings. When he complained regarding this to Kaliyappan's wife Rajamani, she allegedly acknowledged that her husband had misbehaved with several women and she would reward Hari krishnan if he killed Kaliyappan.
Police examined Hari Krishnan's phone calls and it was revealed that he had repeatedly contacted Rajamani's number on the day of the incident. Based on Harikrishnan's confession, it was revealed that Kaliyappan's wife Rajamani was an accomplice to the murder. Following this, the police have arrested both Hari Krishnan and Rajamani. Further investigations are pending in this matter.
