Coimbatore Airport neglected in Vande Bharat Mission: Kongu Global Forum writes to Civil Aviation Minister
Coimbatore: Kongu Global Forum (KGF) has sent a letter to the Civil Aviation Minister, after Coimbatore International Airport was neglected in the list issued by the Centre's Vande Bharat Mission, for the month of September.
On behalf of KGF, Chairman A. Sakthivel and Vice Chairman Vanitha Mohan have penned a letter to the Civil Aviation Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri saying, "Air India Express connects Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah with many cities in India. As per the September schedule of the Vande Bharat Mission program by Government of India, flights have been announced to various cities three Middle East destinations -- Abu Dhabi(16 cities) Dubai(18 cities) and Sharjah (10 cities).
"However, it is disppointing to learn thatCoimbatore International Airport which has adequate infrastructure to handle these flights and which was included as one of the cities in the previous three months, Vande Bharat Mission has been omitted in the recent list. Barring, Coimbatore and Vishakapatnam from South India, all other cities have been included in the September's Vande Bharat Mission", the letter read.
The letter also pointed that Vizag has a hub and spoke facility for Air India in which International passengers arriving from abroad transiting any city in India can clear immigration and customs. But Coimbatore is the only international airport which is neglected in the Vande Bharat Mission- September Schedule and also it is not a recognized airport in the Hub and Spoke model by the Government of India.
They further added, "In Spite of having an international Airport in Coimbatore, it is extremely difficult for passengers to reach Western Tamil Nadu, especially during this pandemic. We request you to kindly look into this issue at the earliest and help us connect with the rest of the World considering the economic significance of the Kongu region."
It is to be noted that 'Simplicity' in a recent news article had mentioned in a special article titled as "Not even one flight scheduled for Coimbatore Airport under "Vande Bharat Mission, Air India Express, Repatriation schedule Phase 6" make passengers upset"
