Coimbatore: The demolition of roadside buildings on the Pollachi-Coimbatore Road in the Kovilpalayam area is underway with the help of machines.

Coimbatore: The demolition of roadside buildings on the Pollachi-Coimbatore Road in the Kovilpalayam area is underway with the help of machines. The laying of service roads in the area will commence shortly, informed the National Highways Department officials.

The Pollachi-Coimbatore road is converted into a four lane road and the work began in 2016 at a cost of Rs.8 crores. The work on these roads have been completed and they have been opened for the use of the public.

Service roads are usually built to connect the villages near the four lane roads. However, the Highways department delayed the compensation that was to be paid to the buildings that were acquired for the laying of the service road. Hence the work on laying the service road was delayed.

Since the building owners have been paid compensation, the demolition work of the buildings using heavy machinery is being undertaken in the Kovilpalayam area on the Pollachi-Coimbatore Road.

The Highways Department officials informed that the laying of the service roads will begin in a few days.
