Coimbatore: Nearly, 4,000 people are being tested for COVID-19 each day within the Corporation limits.

The spread of COVID-19 in Coimbatore district is on the up. The number of cases has gone past 17,000. In order to prevent the spread of the disease, nearly 4,000 people are being tested for COVID-19 each day , informed a Corporation official.

Meanwhile, a coordinating officer has been appointed for each zone of the Corporation. These officers would publish the test results, conduct medical camps, conduct door to door inspections, monitor the spraying of disinfectants, monitor the 24x7 control room, ensure that enough doctors and nurses are available, keep ambulances at ready and monitor the containment zones.

Further a team of Assistant Engineers is to be formed to rapidly identify the contacts of those with COVID-19 and isolate them and monitor then continuously, in a bid to prevent them from spreading the infection to others.

Speaking regarding this, a Corporation Official said, "Upto 6,000 people are being tested each day in the Coimbatore Corporation. Out of the 6,000 nearly 4,000 people are from within the Corporation area. Plans have been made to increase the number of tests done each day."
