Coimbatore: Butterflies play an important role in keeping nature in its form. To get to know them, more than 30 nature-based NGOs in India are celebrating the Big Butterfly Month India 2020 from September 5th to 30th.
More than 30 nature-based voluntary organizations are organizing a grand festival for butterflies as wildlife enthusiasts categorically celebrate the Wildlife Week under the themes wildlife awareness, information on endangered species, and conservation methods. The event takes place from September 14 to 20. Everyone including butterfly enthusiasts, researchers, photographers, videographers and students can attend. Various events like photography competition, videography competition, quiz, origami, and crossword are being conducted at national level.
The Coimbatore Nature and Butterfly Organization also joins in the festivities. We talked to them about butterfly counting, online conversations with experts, awareness programmes, webinars in school and colleges, Tamil poetry competitions, painting competitions etc. All age groups can participate. The event is taking place all over Tamil Nadu. To know about the biology of butterflies, one has to keep track of time, number of butterflies, their photos and post on websites like butterflies of india, inaturalist, and india biodiversity portal .
