Power grid construction attempted in unagreed site near Palladam: Farmers lay siege to officials
Coimbatore: The survey work for the construction of high tension power tower near Palladam is complete and the construction of the tower is underway. Under the circumstances, an alternative route in another part of the villageis allegedly being considered.
The affected farmers have been engaged in various struggles urging them to lay cable on roadsides instead of carrying them through agricultural lands. In Vavipalayam village next to Palladam in Tirupur district, the survey work for the construction of the power power grid has been completed despite the protests of the farmers and the work of installing the high tension power grid is in progress.
The farmers got into an argument saying that they could not lose their land again and did not allow the survey work.
Officials said the decision would be taken in consultation with a government, but the farmers continued to argue that measurement work should not be done in their area and besieged the power grid officials and the Tahsildar.
