Coimbatore: The Kongu Global forum has requested the TN Chief Minister to declare Coimbatore as the second capital of the state and that it can be an alternative seat of the administration to govern the state.
Kongu Global forum (KGF) Chairman A. Sakthiveland Vice Chairman Vanitha Mohan have sent a letter to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K Palanisami.
The letter reads, "Kongu Global forum is an association of industrial leaders of the seven districts - namely, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Karur, Namakkal and Nilgiris. This forum is actively involved in holistic improvement of infrastructure and supports the growth of industries. This region is primarily an engineering and textile manufacturing hub and a wide range of goods are being manufactured for both domestic and export markets. It is one of the biggest manufacturing regions of the country earning a significant amount of revenue to the state exchequer.
Besides being anindustrialised region, this place is well connected to the adjacent states by means of road and rail network and to national and international destinations through the Coimbatore International Airport. Coimbatore also enjoys a salubrious weather all through the year and is blessed with sufficient rains from both North East and South West Monsoons. The airport is one of the busiest after Chennai and caters to domestic and international travellers. The city is growing in infrastructure and facilities will state of the art with the developmental work undertaken through the Smart City program.
The future prospects are very bright being a growing region with the industrial city of Tirupur in the east that is equally flourishing. These twin cities with less congestion and more opportunities for expansion can ideally be the second capital of the state that will be a nodal point for all Southern States after Chennai.
Hence it is requested that Coimbatore with its booming trade potential and pleasant climatic conditions may be declared as the second capital of the state that can be an alternative seat of the administration to govern the state."
A copy of this letter has been sent to the Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural development and Implementation of Special Programme, S.P. Velumani.
