Coimbatore: An elderly woman from Coimbatore on Thursday has filed a petition to the Superintendent Office, here regarding a land cheating issue, allegedly involving a BJP functionary.

Kannammal (75) is a resident of Muslim Colony in Madukkarai. In her petition to the SP, she has accused that Arumugam, a BJP functionary to whom she leased her land for running a grocery shop had cheated and grabbed her land. She alleged that Arumugam had misused her ignorance and played a foul game.

According to her petition, Kannammal had leased her land to a person named Arumugam for setting up a grocery shop. As per the agreement, Arumugam had allegedly promised to give her Rs.1 lakh for the lease. As, Kannammal had to consult her sons and daughters, she put the offer on hold.

Meanwhile, Arumugam accused that Kannammal had purchased groceries worth Rs.50,000 and demanded to pay the money. "Using his accusation, he compelled and took me to the Madukkarai sub-registrar's office and tricked me into placing my fingerprint", the elderly woman lamented.

Later, Arumugam had given Rs.50,000 to Kannammal and allegedly compelled her to write down her two cent house in his name, within two weeks. Shocked by his demand, Kannammal has clarified that she had only leased the land to him not the house. However, Arumugam has allegedly revealed to her that he had misused her signature and made a sale deed.

The elderly woman also accused that Arumugam who is also a BJP functionary had demolished her house using a JCB. "A complaint regarding this has been filed at Madukkarai Police station. However, the police are skeptical in initiating action on him, due to his political background. When my daughter Rani confronted Arumugam and his son, they attacked her and also used caste slurs", the complainant told.

Distressed over the issue, the elderly woman has sought the help of the Coimbatore SP to order a probe and initiate appropriate legal action against her complaint.
