Coimbatore: Placing demands to announce Pollachi as a separate district, the Hindu Makkal Katchi staged protests in front of the office of the Pollachi Sub-Collector.
A long pending request of the people of Pollachi is for Pollachi to be made into a district. In line with this, the Hindu Makkal Katchistaged a protest in front of the Sub- Collector's office placing various demands such as announcing Pollachi as a separate district, long-pending pleas of the PAP farmers to fulfill the Anaimalaiyaaru and Nallaru scheme, relief fund for tribal people and many other such demands.
Party President Arjun Sampath led the protest. Slogans were raised demanding Pollachi to be made into a separate district.
Following this, the protestors met the Pollachi Sub- Collector Vaithyanathan and submitted a petition.
Speaking about this, Arjun Sampath said, "Mayiladuthurai, Thenkasi and other places have been announced as districts. However, only Pollachi has not been made into a district for political reasons. If the announcement of Pollachi as a district is not made in 10 days, then a massive hunger strike will be staged with farmers and the public."
