Coimbatore: Even death could not part a couple of advanced age in Coimbatore. In an incident that moved the hearts of many, a man died of heart attack on hearing his wife's death.

Mani (74) and Sarojini (72) were residing in the Sundarapuram area. Mani is a retiree from a private firm and his wife Sarojini retired as a teacher from the Kinathukadavu Government Higher Secondary School. Five years ago, Sarojini suffered from a stroke following which their married daughter took care of her.

Meanwhile, Sarojini's health deteriorated yesterday night and a nurse residing nearby was called for help. The nurse checked Sarojini and found that she had passed away. On hearing this, Mani collapsed. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but since no doctors were available there he was taken to another place.

The doctors declared him dead on arrival due to cardiac arrest en route. Hearing this, the relatives were shocked. The passing away of an aged couple within an hour of each other created sadness among their relatives and neighbours.

Attempts are being made by the relatives to cremate the mortal remains of the couple at the same time in the Nanjundapuram Electric Crematorium.
