Out of fresh cases reported on Tuesday, 1,025 cases were from State Capital Chennaialone.
While Coimbatore posted an alarmingly high single-day jump of 579, Tirupur and the Nilgiris logged 87 and 14 cases, respectively.
As of September 2 evening, cumulatively 4,39,959 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 7,516 deaths and 3,80,063 discharges including the 5.891 recoveries today, the Health department said in its bulletin.
A total of 47,99,905 samples have been tested so far, out of which 73,883 were tested on Tuesday alone.
