Coimbatore: After a long time the operation of government buses was permitted by the TN government in the lockdown relaxations that were announced recently. However, the fear of COVID-19 has led to very few people using public transport. Following this the number of buses being operated has been reduced.
Bus services, both government and private have been halted since March 25, as a part of the lockdown measures that were put in place in a bid to control the spread of COVID-19. Following that relaxations to the lockdown were announced and government bus service inside the eight zones of the state resumed in June. In the Coimbatore Zone, 50 % buses were operated in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Nilgiris and Erode districts. However, bus services were once again stopped in the month of July to control the spread of COVID-19.
Following the relaxations announced by the government, bus services within the district resumed yesterday. Guidelines issued by the government are being followed.
As per this, 401 buses began operating. However, due to the fear of the pandemic only very few passengers travelled on buses. As a result of this the number of buses being operated has been brought down to 260.
Temperature checks are conducted and the use of hand sanitizers to clean the hands are being followed, as per the government issued guidelines, before the passengers are permitted to board the buses.
Similarly, buses are being disinfected after each service.
