Coimbatore: 'Kovai Trans Kitchen', a restaurant run entirely by a team of 10 transgenders has been inaugurated in the Sinthamani area in Vadakovai, today.
Coimbatore: Though Covid-19 lockdown has hit many sections of people, among the worst-affected are certainly transgender community.

In a bid to enhance their livelihood, break the stereo-types and discrimination meted out to transgenders in the society, ten transgenders from Coimbatore have joined hands to run a restaurant in the name of "Kovai Trans Kitchen' in RS Puram area, here on Wednesday.

"This initiative in Coimbatore is the first of its kind in Tamil Nadu which is completely run by a team of 10 transgenders. The restaurant has been opened with an aim to boost the morale and uplift the livelihood of transgenders", informed Sangeetha, the Coimbatore District Transgender Association President.
"As inclusivity is the need of the hour, based on the support and response from public, we plan to expand our services in another six months", told Sangeetha.
"United Way, Chennai, Swasthi, CSI and Appasamy College Management were inatrumental in setting up this restaurant. We improved our culinary and joyel mangement skills by undergoing a six months training at Appasamy College", she added.
The restaurant is run by a group of ten transgenders at East Venkatasamy road close to VadaKovai.
