Coimbatore: In an unfortunate incident, a 26-year-old woman hung her child and also herself to death, allegedly after her husband did not permit her to attend a wedding reception of their relative, citing Covid spread.

Kathiresan (33) is a daily wage labourer in the Thalakkarai area, Negamam near Pollachi and married Thamaraiselvi (26) two and a half years ago. The couple had an one and a half year old girl child.

According to police reports, Thamaraiselvi has informed her husband of her relative's wedding reception and expressed her willingness to attend the same. However, due to COVID spread, Kathiresan has allegedly denied permission and warned her not to attend the function.

The next day morning, when Kathiresan returned home from his work, he found the door locked from inside. As he received no response from his wife, he fell suspicious and opened the roof of the house and found his wife and child hanging and dead.

Following this, he informed the Negamam police who arrived to the spot and retrieved the corpses and sent them to the Pollachi Government hospital for post mortem.

The police have registered a case and are investigating. Since, it has been only two and half years since the couple got married, the case will be taken for investigation by the RDO, said the police.

The death of the mother and the child has brought immense grief amid the villagers and the family.
