Public stage protests condemning the failure of drinking water supply for 50 days near Palladam

Tirupur: Residents of the Ganapathipalayam Panchayat staged road roko against the lack of drinking water supply for the past 50 days.

Tirupur: Residents of the Ganapathipalayam Panchayat staged road roko against the lack of drinking water supply for the past 50 days.

The Ganapathipalayam Panchayat under the Palladam Union of the Tirupur District has a population of 1,500 families. It is alleged that there has been no drinking water supply for the past 50 days in the area. In spite of the residents of the area complaining about this to the Panchayat authorities and government officials many times, the authorities allegedly did not take any action regarding this.

Drinking water supply was not provided today too. Angered by this, the public staged a road roko on the Ganapathipalayam- Tirupur Main road condemning the Ganapathipalayam Panchayat Administration.

The government officials and the Palladam DSP Ramachandran who arrived there upon receiving information regarding this, held talks with the public. The residents of the area lamented that drinking water supply was not regular and since the women were also employed, they could store drinking water only if they were at home. In this state, women took leave from work and stayed back to store water but drinking water was not supplied as promised.

With their livelihood being affected by COVID-19, they questioned why drinking water had not been supplied in spite of repeated complaints.

Following this the police department assured them of appropriate action and the public then revoked the road roko and dispersed. As a result of this traffic on the Ganapathipalayam-Tirupur Main road was affected for more than an hour.
