Coimbatore: The Masaniamman temple near Pollachi was opened to devotees today. Following this devotees maintained social distancing and offered their prayers. Since temples have reopened after five months, devotees waited in long lines to worship the Amman.
Coimbatore: The Masaniamman temple near Pollachi was opened to devotees today. Following this devotees maintained social distancing and offered their prayers. Since temples have reopened after five months, devotees waited in long lines to worship the Amman.
Due to the spread of COVID-19 a lockdown was imposed since March and worship at temples were also banned. However, along with the other relaxations that were issued by the government recently, temples were also permitted to reopen for worship by the public.
Following this workers at the Hindu temples- Masaniamman temple, Subramaniasamy temple, Anaimalai Masaniamman temple and other mosques and churches in Pollachi and its surrounding areas sprayed and cleaned the places of worship with disinfectants.
Further, the notice boards at these places of worship announced the guidelines to be followed to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They also carry notices denying entry or those people from the containment zones and that thermal scanner will be used to check the devotees. Devotees were also informed to keep their hands clean with sanitizers and to wash their feet with water.

It was also insisted that they should wear face masks and maintain social distancing. Only if these were followed the devotees would be permitted inside the temple premises they stated.

Restrictions were also put in place to touch the idols and other places inside the temple. Devotees were requested not to bring coconuts, fruits and flowers. Further, devotees have been denied permission to witness poojas, abhishekam and other festivities.
Marriages should be conducted at the allotted time and each wedding must consist of not more than 50 people and social distancing must be maintained.
People more than 65 years of age, people with blood pressure, diabetes, respiratory disease, heart disease and other diseases, pregnant women and children less than 10 years must avoid visiting the temples stated the restrictions issued by the temples.
